The honest thing first: The Vine is not in Vacaville. We meet at 600 Gregory Ln in Fairfield, about ten miles southwest on I-80 — normally around fifteen minutes outside of commute traffic.

A good number of the people in the room on a Sunday make that drive, and they make it for what happens once they arrive rather than because it is convenient. This page is here so you can decide whether it is worth yours.

The drive from Vacaville

It is one straight run southwest on I-80, with no back roads and no county highways. Vacaville sits between Dixon and Fairfield on the same corridor, so if you already drive toward the Bay for work, you drive past us on the way.

Sunday morning is the lightest traffic of the week in both directions. Leaving Vacaville around 10:30am puts you in the parking lot with time for a coffee before worship starts at 11:00am.

Why people make the drive

The preaching is the reason most of them give. Pastor Amos Sikele works through books of the Bible passage by passage — Ephesians end to end, then a series on the spiritual disciplines — rather than assembling a talk and finding verses to support it. The subject is Jesus, not a topic with verses attached to it.

The second reason is size. A mid-size church is small enough that you get known in it and large enough to have somewhere for your kids to go. Branches Kids, our children's ministry, runs during the service and Alive Youth, our student ministry, meets for middle and high schoolers, so a Vacaville family is not making the drive for the adults alone.

Try a service before you drive one

If a fifteen-minute drive to an unfamiliar church is a bigger ask than you want to make cold, then do not make it cold. Every message is posted online, and the written recaps carry the passage, the outline, and the application in a few minutes of reading.

Watch one, read one, and come if it is the kind of teaching you have been looking for. That is a better use of a Sunday than guessing.

Midweek, if you already commute

Abide Groups meet on Wednesdays at 6:30pm. For a Vacaville family that is a real ask on a school night, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. But if you already drive the I-80 corridor for work, 6:30pm in Fairfield is often an easier stop on the way home than a second trip out of the house later.

Young adults have Table Nights on Mondays and Thrive Nights through the year. Both are worth the drive if you are in that season and looking for people your own age who actually read their Bible.
