The Vine meets at 600 Gregory Ln in Fairfield, roughly six miles from Travis — about fifteen minutes, and no freeway if you do not want one. Base families have been part of this church for as long as anyone here can remember.
The chapel on base is a good thing and we are not competing with it. Some people want both; some want a congregation off base that stays the same when the duty schedule does not. This page is for the second kind.
Built for people who arrive and leave on orders
Most churches assume you will be around in five years. A church near a base cannot, and pretending otherwise wastes the time you actually have. People show up here with no family within a thousand miles and a report date behind them, and they are gone again before they have finished unpacking.
So belonging here is quick rather than earned. You do not have to be a member to sit in an Abide Group, sign your kids into Branches Kids, or ask someone to pray with you. If you would like one family to know your name before your first Sunday, fill out the visit form and we will introduce you to one.
When one of you is gone
A deployment is not a prayer request you want to repeat to a new stranger every week, and the practical side of it does not fit in a handshake at the door either. What helps is a small group of people who already know the dates and stop asking you to re-explain them.
That is what Abide Groups are for. They meet Wednesdays at 6:30pm, they are fifteen minutes from the base, and Branches Kids and Alive Youth run the same night — so the midweek gathering is one trip for the whole family rather than a childcare problem to solve first.
For your kids, who did not choose the move
Branches Kids, our children's ministry, meets during the Sunday service and again on Wednesday evenings, with the same faces each time. Alive Youth, our student ministry, is there for middle and high schoolers, which is usually the harder age to move.
We will not pretend a church solves a PCS for a twelve-year-old. But a room that is the same on Wednesday as it was on Sunday, run by adults who are still there next month, is worth more at that age than almost anything else we offer.
And when you get orders again
Tell us where you are going and we will help you look for a church there rather than act wounded about it. Handing someone off well is part of the job in a town like this, and a congregation that treats every departure as a loss is not a congregation that has understood where it lives.
Until then: Sunday worship at 11:00am, Wednesdays at 6:30pm, free parking on site, and come as you are. Whatever the next set of orders says, Jesus is the one thing here that does not change with a duty station.
